The Swan Inn in Wilton, near Marlborough, has been awarded Gold in the 2013 Taste of the West awards.
The Awards, which are judged by a panel of anonymous, independent expert judges, who visit all of the establishments in the competition, celebrate the best food in the West. Successful establishments are given Gold, Silver or Bronze awards, with only five dining pubs in the whole of the West receiving Gold in 2013.
The highest scoring Gold award winners from each category are put through to the final round of judging as contenders for the overall South West winner of each category. The winners of these awards will be announced at a ceremony in October.
Bill Clemence, landlord and owner of The Swan Inn, said: “We’re a traditional family pub doing things in the traditional way. This award is the result of a huge amount of love put into the Swan by myself and my dedicated team. We’ve always aimed to exceed our customers' expectations and this award will drive us to work even harder to do so.”
The Swan prides itself on the quality of its meals - sourcing all ingredients as locally as possible and serving simple, well-cooked food made on the premises.
The local approach extends to The Swan’s beer and cider selections, with many coming from only a few miles around.
The other dining pubs receiving Gold are The Fontmell in Fontmell Magna; The New Inn in Dorchester; The Three Horseshoes in Bridport (all in Dorset); and Millbrook Inn in Kingsbridge, Devon.
