Kadans Science Partner (Kadans) has expanded its real estate portfolio at Abingdon Science Park in Oxfordshire with the completion of its flagship lab facility called Barton House.

The purpose-built 'BREEAM Excellent' building has two wings and a 50:50 lab to office ratio. It can house two companies or a single business in one of the UK's prime scientific clusters.

The building's launch also brings a new café, adding a much welcomed amenity to the science park, which is already home to organisations such as Genefirst, Sherlock Biosciences, Akamis Bio, Penlon, and Helix Geospace.

"It is exciting to bring a new type of laboratory product to our existing ownership at The Science Quadrant at Abingdon Science Park," said Katie Nelson, senior asset manager at Kadans.

"This building is our flagship building on the site and presents a great opportunity for new businesses wanting to join our European Ecosystem and be housed in a highly technical facility.

"The addition of the café will provide much needed communal space within the Park, encouraging innovators to gather and collaborate. We look forward to working with potential businesses to expand here," she added.

The cafe will be run by B corp certified caterer Houston & Hawkes and will also serve as a point for collaboration and networking for Oxfordshire's scientific community.

Properties within the park are jointly leased by science and technology advisors DTRE and Bidwells.

Oxford is recognised as a leading European city for innovation in science and technology and contributes around £7 billion a year to the UK economy.

The city is home to world-class talent and a flourishing ecosystem of knowledge intensive businesses.

Kadans Science Partner is a European leader in developing ecosystems and real estate with a focus on knowledge-intensive sectors. It is currently active in more than 25 science clusters and continues to grow.
