Julian Dunkerton, one of the founders of Superdry is to leave the company to devote more time to his other business and charitable interests, the company has announced.  Julian will be stepping down from his position as a Director with effect from 31 March 2018.  Julian’s role in relation to product and brand will be continued by the creative teams that Julian has helped Superdry to establish.

Julian Dunkerton said: "I am immensely proud of everything achieved at Superdry over the past fifteen years. As a fast-growing, innovative business, Superdry has always evolved to ensure it keeps delivering. With other demands on my time it is the right point for me to transition my focus and responsibilities."

Peter Bamford, Chairman of Superdry, said: "With Superdry embarking on the next phase of its ambitious growth plans, and with other interests and opportunities available to him, Julian and I have been talking for some time about the right time for him to move on from the business. I have enjoyed working closely with him over the last eight years and, on behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Julian for his outstanding contribution in building Superdry into such a great brand."

Superdry focuses on high-quality products that fuse vintage Americana and Japanese-inspired graphics with a British style. They are characterised by quality fabrics, authentic vintage washes, unique detailing, world leading hand-drawn graphics and tailored fits with diverse styling. Such distinctiveness has gained the brand exclusive appeal as well as an international celebrity following.

Born from a creative collaboration between entrepreneurs Julian Dunkerton and James Holder in Cheltenham in 2003, Superdry is a British fashion success story. Julian began his foray into fashion with a clothing stall at the Cheltenham market. This evolved into the brand Cult Clothing, which sold vintage-looking, Americana inspired clothing in cities such as Cheltenham, Oxford, Birmingham and Edinburgh.  Meanwhile, James experimented with design and screenprinting, eventually founding the skatewear brand Bench.  When the two met, they quickly bonded over their obsession with product, progression and pushing boundaries. By combining Julian’s passion for incredible tailoring, high quality fabrics and vintage washes along with James’s love of typography and graphics, Superdry was born following an inspirational trip to Tokyo.

Superdry has a significant and growing presence around the world, operating through 515 Superdry branded locations in 46 countries. There are 139 owned stores across the UK and mainland Europe, 208 franchised and licensed stores, all but one outside the UK, and 168 concessions.

Superdry.com sells to over 100 countries worldwide, operating from 21 international websites.
