Businesses on the Isle of Wight are opening their doors to showcase what careers are available to people in an 'Open For Business' event on Saturday, March 23.

Behind the event are Solent Partners Careers Hub, working with Island Careers Partnership, Isle of Wight College and HTP Apprenticeship College and among the firms involved are Vestas, Red Funnel and GKN Aerospace.

Also taking part are the Isle of Wight Council and the IoW NHS Trust.

Free talks and tours are available to young people wondering which career path to choose and for people already in work looking to change direction.

"Whether it’s food, fashion, beauty, healthcare, sustainable tech, transport or building aircraft for the future, this is your chance to find out more about the fantastic careers available on the Isle of Wight," said Solent Partners chair Rachael Randall.

"The Island has a vast number of business sectors based here, with many great job opportunities associated with them. Come and take a look at what’s on offer and speak to those working there about the skills that are required."

Beth Mansell, career development facilitator at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, added: "We are looking forward to taking part in Open for Business 2024, which is a real first for our Island community.

"Our talented colleagues will be showcasing the skills needed for a wide range of job roles within Health and Care, and they will support anyone who is exploring career opportunities in the sector to make an informed decision about their pathway."

Richard White, chair of the Island Careers Partnership (ICP), added: "The Island is packed full of interesting jobs and sectors, and we need to ensure that when young people begin to make career choices, they don't automatically look away from the innovative and interesting industries based here on the Isle of Wight."
