IoD welcomes Chief Economist Kitty Ussher

IoD Chief Economist Kitty Ussher will outline prospects for the UK economy at a special event.

A former MP for Burnley, Ussher served as Economic Secretary to the Treasury during the early phase of the financial crisis and subsequently as a junior minister at the Department for Work and Pensions.

She will address members and guests from Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes on 8 April at the Leander Club, Henley-on-Thames, providing an outlook through this year and 2023 for the economy, investment and growth.

IoD Oxfordshire chair Mark Johnson said: “This event provides a great opportunity for directors to hear first-hand how the UK economy is likely to shape up in the coming months and beyond. 

“The discussion will cover the impact of the pandemic, its effects on the workforce, productivity and consumer spending and how this plays into wider global trends including the longer-term impact of Brexit.”

Kitty Ussher said: “With inflation forecasts rising almost daily, war in Eastern Europe, a post-pandemic economy that is still trying to settle and consumers increasingly uncertain about what this all means for their household budgeting, business leaders can be forgiven for finding this a difficult time to plan. 

“I’m really looking forward to sharing our own IoD forecasts and exploring ideas at this very well-timed event.”

The event includes a two-course lunch and there are special rates for students, members and guests, and non-members.
