'Investment at Solent Airport set to be a gamechanger' - Fareham Borough Council
Approval for a revised package of investment at Solent Airport was approved yesterday following a meeting of Fareham Council's executives.
The improvements programme, which has been increased to £5.9 million from the £4.7 million initially approved in 2022, will be fronted by the installation of AGL (Aeronautical Ground Lighting).
Other improvements will include new airport fuel assets and safety improvements to the Visual Control Room at the Control Tower required by the Civil Aviation Authority.
The installation of Aeronautical Ground Lighting at Solent Airport is a ''key objective'' for Daedalus (the name of the operation) according to the council. Fareham council has also stated that it believes AGL will increase airport movements, improve the airport’s revenue position and could attract new tenants to the airport.
Executive leader of Fareham Borough Council Cllr Seán Woodward said: “I am delighted to see this significant package of investment in Solent Airport move forward. The AGL is a gamechanger for the airport’s customers and will strengthen its role at the heart of Fareham’s economy, continuing to attract highly skilled new jobs into the Borough.”
