HS2 has launched a new supplier guide to encourage businesses to register their interest becoming a supplier.

With around 400,000 contracts expected to be generated by the first project alone, it’s safe to say HS2 represents a lucrative opportunity for business around the country, with an estimated £25bn of opportunities expected to be created in the wider supply chain.

In the guide, businesses will find HS2’s strategic goals and buying objectives, along with introducing the project’s Tier 1 construction partners and their procurement and supply chain teams.

It also offers advice on how suppliers of all levels of the value chain can prepare themselves for the opportunities HS2 presents.

HS2 requires its construction partners to post all subcontracts on CompeteFor, which lets companies quickly set up profiles then receive bespoke alerts for opportunities. HS2 also publishes all indirect contract opportunities on its website, where more than 900 contract opportunities are currently available.

Ruth Todd, Chief Commercial Officer at HS2 said: “HS2 provided a lifeline to thousands of UK-based SMEs during the pandemic, and in these challenging economic times, it’s vital that British businesses of all sizes gear up to capitalise on the certainty that HS2 contracts provide.

“With a two-decade long construction programme ahead of us, our contractors need a robust, reliable, and resilient supply chain. Whether seeking to diversify or broaden their client base, now is the time for businesses to get HS2-ready.”
