Gloria Moss, professor of management and Marketing at Bucks New University and visiting professor at ESG, Paris, will give a free public lecture at starting at 6pm on Wednesday May 21, at Bucks New University's High Wycombe Campus.

Her presentation will be the first in a series of free professorial public lectures to be held at the University which seek to discuss educational and research topics of interest to the wider public and organisations regionally.

During Moss' lecture, entitled: 'Mars and Venus in the marketing suite', she will reflect on how companies market different products for men and women, yet Hamleys and M&S have stopped differentiating boys’ and girls’ toys. Are males and females cognitively different or are they approaching androgyny?

Her lecture will look at men’s and women’s visual creations and preferences and show the impact of thousands of years of hunter/gatherer activity and how organisations can use this information for competitive advantage.

Moss is a fellow of the CIPD with a PhD in diversity and marketing and has advised major companies on how to harness human factors to optimise design and marketing. With articles published in several leading newspapers and journals, she is also the author of 'Gender, Design and Marketing' (2009), 'Profiting from Diversity' (2010), 'Lessons on Profiting from Diversity' (2012), and 'Why men like straight lines and women like polka dots', which is soon to be published.

Moss said of her forthcoming lecture: "This is an opportunity to present cutting-edge information that could transform thinking on design and marketing, so local businesses are warmly invited to come and offer the benefit of their wisdom as part of the discussion.”

The lecture will be chaired by Professor Ruth Farwell, vice chancellor at Bucks New Uni, and will take place from 6-7pm in Owen Harris Lecture Theatre 1 at Bucks New Uni's High Wycombe Campus, Bucks HP11 2JZ.

Light refreshments will be served beforehand from 5.30pm and after the event.

Admission to the lecture is free and is open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Places should, however, be reserved in advance by emailing Lorna West on [email protected], calling 01494603002 for a booking form, or clicking here.
