Founded in 1999, workplace specialist Active is one of the most trusted companies within the office interiors industry today. Specialising in assisting businesses of all sizes through periods of workplace change, Active can offer the entire spectrum of workplace service including office refurbishments, relocations, furniture, storage, maintenance, IT and a fully-managed office solution, writes Jennie Armley, marketing coordinator, Active.

Based in Reading, we have been working with an array of clients in the Thames Valley for a number of years including: Aeris, Kyocera and the Institute of Marketing. In Slough specifically, we’ve supported Fiat, GVA (Lonza), Cherry Tree Nursery, Starline, ScentAir, Virgin Media in Langley and DX (Ditton Park).

With Thames Valley undergoing accelerated growth, we are on hand to help our clients adapt their workplaces to facilitate this. Whether it is relocating them to a new or larger office space, using specialist space planning and workplace analysis tools to rework their existing space or completely transform their office environment in order to attract and retain new talent, encourage productivity and unlock their businesses potential.

Our most recent client partnership with Vital Six, saw us design, fit out and source the furniture for a 60-seat co-working space at Thames Valley Science Park’s (TVSP) new ‘Innovation Catalyst’ space opening in March 2018 and forming an integral part of a comprehensive offer to business innovators across the county.

Practice what we preach

2017 was a great year for Active; we grew by 20%, we invested in new talent, were formally recognised by our peers within the industry and local community and are currently in the midst of our own workplace regeneration, expanding at the site we’ve been based at for six years in Woodley, near Reading.

“We are excited to be creating a more agile and effective workplace for our own employees, and once the design and refurb has taken place, we’ll be equipped to showcase our full offering as well as supporting our workforce in the way we support our clients,” said Colin Tarsey, founder and director.

Investing in our people

Active works hard to attract talent to the business. We have been Investors in People accredited since 2014 and following an independent audit at the end of last year, retained this.

Tarsey commented: “We remain committed to providing the very best environment where our people can develop, be creative and deliver quality services to our clients. We treat our clients the same way we treat our own employees, as an extension of the Active team. We want all of our partners, internal or external, to benefit from having an effective workspace.”

In the community

We reach out to local charities offering unwanted client office equipment; delivered and installed free of charge. For the past five years we have supported Launchpad, a local charity helping local homeless and vulnerable people to help themselves.

Rewarded

We believe businesses should be recognised for their contribution to the local economy and community and are very pleased to have been announced as Thames Valley Business and Community Award’s SME of the Year in January. We were also shortlisted for the Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards SME of the Year in 2017, further cementing ourselves across the region.

Commitment to the environment

We’re passionate about workplaces, and we’re passionate about the environment. We champion our sustainability agenda and have been accredited with environmental standard ISO:14001. All of which keeps the corporate and environmental responsibilities of our clients at the forefront of everything we do. Whether it be a sustainable furniture clearance or designing an environmentally friendly workplace, all projects are handled with an emphasis on maximum sustainability and a reduction of waste output, carbon footprint and financial cost.
