Empty office space at Reading's Queen's Wharf to be turned into apartments
The bottom floor of a vacant office building in Reading town centre might be transformed into flats if proposals are granted.
Metrix Developments has filed to convert the bottom floor of Queen's Wharf into flats, with entrances on both Kennetside and Queens Road. It is currently just vacant and unused office space, with the idea being to convert the storey into seven - or perhaps nine - flats.
Application 221383 proposes seven apartments (three two-bedroom units, three one-bedroom units and one studio flat). While application 221384, on the other hand, would have three two-bed flats, one studio flat and five one-bedroom units.
In both concepts, 12 bike parking spots would be added on the lower ground level, which would still serve as a car park and service area. If you're interested, the proposals can be seen by searching for applications '221383' and '221384' on Reading Borough Council's planning website.
If rubberstamped, the construction project would be the latest of a long line of developments in the town, with many of them seeing empty space turned into apartments or entirely new apartment complexes being built from scratch.
