Coventry Chamber of Commerce wants clear guidance on Tier 2 restrictions
A leading business organisation in Coventry has called for clear guidance, immediate support and a long-term plan from national Government for firms as the city moves into Tier 2 Covid-19 restrictions.
Under Tier 2, businesses and venues can continue to operate, but pubs and restaurants must ensure that customers consume food and drink only while seated, and close between 10pm and 5am.
Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We have been clear since the start of the pandemic that health has to come first and businesses will be ready to comply with measures that help to reduce the spread of the virus.
“Moving to Tier 2 does make life harder for businesses in the leisure and hospitality sector, which have already suffered immeasurably since the crisis hit in March.
“It’s vital, therefore, that there is clear communication from the outset of what companies must do and that any support is increased and is targeted at those firms that need it most in a bid to save jobs and preserve good businesses.
“What we really need to see now is a longer-term plan around restrictions and the support that comes with it. We simply don’t know how long we are going to be living with Coronavirus so it’s important that there is a clear understanding of when and why restrictions will be applied, when they are removed and the help businesses get in the meantime.”
