Construction of Shinfield Studios continues apace as steel framework goes up
Development at one of the most interesting and exciting new construction projects in the South East is going rather well indeed. Found at The Thames Valley Science Park in Reading, Shinfield Studios now has its heavy duty steel base structure in place.
This new filming locale will provide 18 brand new, purpose-built sound stages, workshops and a post-production cinema, all set in a modern work environment large enough to accommodate the biggest blockbuster movie and television productions.
The preparation, fabrication and erection took over 2,000 man hours in total, but the primary frame of the steelwork for Shinfield Studios was finished in just six weeks.
The present building wastage is an impressively low 3%. Which is remarkable given the massive amount of steel that was used to construct the studio's framework.
Shinfield and the Thames Valley Science Park site was chosen among a number of potential locations because of its prominent location close to London and important transportation hubs, including the M4 and Heathrow Airport. It is, really, the perfect location for attracting talented cast and crew.
By 2024, the entire 18-stage facility will be finished and ready to host some serious TV and film-making history.
