Chartered accountant Robert Kirtland has received an honorary fellowship from Oxford Brookes University.

Robert, who was born and educated in Thame, was a founding trustee of Charity Mentors Oxfordshire. He was also treasurer for the Dorchester Abbey appeal which raised over ÂŁ4 million in the early 2000s, and is currently a trustee of Charity Centre Oxford.

Robert was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire in 2020, and manages the promotion of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise scheme.

He was a governor at Oxford Brookes from 2012 until 2020.

Robert has been a partner at Oxford firm Critchleys for more than 20 years, specialising in advising clients in charity and education. He also works with colleges from the University of Oxford, Academy schools among other charities, and leads Critchley’s charities team.

After receiving his honorary fellowship, Robert said: “I am extremely honoured and proud to receive this Fellowship from Oxford Brookes. My role as Governor of the University was one of the most rewarding things I have done and I was always immensely impressed by the professionalism of the staff and their commitment to the quality of the student experience.”

Peter Davison is deputy editor of The Business Magazine. He has spent his life in journalism – doing work experience in newsrooms in and around Bristol while still at school, and landing his first job on a local newspaper aged 19. By 28 he was the youngest newspaper editor in the country.

An early advocate of online news, he spent the first years of the 2000s telling his bosses that the internet posed both the biggest opportunity and greatest threat to the newspaper industry and the art of journalism. He was right on both counts.

Since 2006 he has enjoyed a career as a freelance journalist. He lives in rural Wiltshire with one wife, two children, and three cats.
