AXA Health, which has offices across the South East, is searching for a new CEO following the resignation of Tracy Garrad, effective almost immediately.

Current CFO Matt Vardy will take over from next week as interim CEO. The news has come as a shock to staff in Tunbridge Wells, where AXA Health is the largest employer.

A company-wide shift towards hybrid working under Tracy’s leadership led to the closure of two offices in the town, Eynsham House and Phillips House, as funds were redirected to International House. Around half of AXA’s 2,000 employees at the time was based in one of the two closed offices.

AXA Health said: “The majority of our people work in a hybrid way and regular attendance in the office not only maintains our culture but also helps to support the local economy.

“This change to our ways of working resulted in the decision to sell some office space and reinvest the capital into refurbishing and upgrading other properties, specifically a significant investment into International House, which AXA Health colleagues will be returning to soon.

“AXA has had a presence in Tunbridge Wells for over 60 years, which we intend to continue. We remain committed to investing in the area and contributing to the success of the town.”

Tracy held positions on the AXA UK Board and AXA PPP Healthcare Ltd Operating Board, as well as being a member of the UK&I Management Committee. Her resignation sees her step down from each of these roles.
