Accountants and business advisers BDO, in association with accountancy and finance recruitment specialist CMA Recruitment Group, launch the third annual campaign to find the highest achieving and most talented finance directors from the region’s mid-market companies.

The Central South Mid Market campaign continues to highlight the importance of the region’s mid-sized businesses and to celebrate their achievements. BDO’s analysis shows that despite the political and economic uncertainty, in the past three years the mid-market in the region has still achieved 25% growth in turnover.

For the third year, BDO is partnering with CMA Recruitment Group to identify the most talented and high achieving finance directors and investigate just what it takes to be successful in the current climate. These top performers will be announced and then shortlisted for the Central South Mid-Market FD of the Year – the winner being revealed at a gala dinner in the autumn.

Last year, Joe Jeffers, chief financial officer at Peach Technologies, was named region’s Mid Market Finance Director of the Year.

He said of the award: “It was a great experience to be involved as it really makes you think about how you as an FD/CFO add value, not just to your organisation but also around influencing wider stakeholders. Taking part also showcases the importance and dynamism of the role in a more general sense. Whilst I was delighted to win in 2019, that was my second year of entering, so I would say that if you have either entered previously or 2020 will be your first time, you should definitely just go for it.”

Malcolm Thixton, lead partner at BDO Southampton, said: “We will be looking for exceptional performance during 2019 and into 2020, in leadership and management skills, contribution to the performance and growth of the business and while commercially astute, with an appropriate approach to risk and governance.”

Richard Dibden, commercial director at CMA Recruitment Group, added: “We hope to find finance directors that show a passion for the business and are making an effective contribution to the strategic direction of the company as well as the wider community in which it operates.”

Finance directors at mid-market companies with turnover between £10m and £300m, can enter themselves or be nominated by their managing directors or professional advisers. The deadline for entries is Thursday April 2, 2020.

The top 10 performing FDs will be announced later in the Spring, with the winner set to be revealed, at a gala dinner in November, alongside the Central South Mid Market Company of the Year.
