Andover-based stairlift manufacturer Stannah Group has announced the acquisition of 3D Ply, a Dorset-based wood specialist.

The deal, which feeds into Stannah’s plans for growth and increases its customer offering, see its taking over one of its long-term suppliers, known for its laminated three-dimensional formed plywood, solid wood components and veneered panels.

Currently employing around 20 people, 3D Ply specialises in making and supplying seat frames to a wide range of clients, notably including the majority of Stannah’s stairlift products.

3D Ply will continue to trade under its current name, remaining in its Blandford location, but with the added expertise of Stannah to guide it. It joins Global Upholstery Solutions, Stannah’s upholstery business, linking up to offer a simplified solution to customers.

Bringing the two brands under one roof will allow Stannah to make use of GUS’ rare specialism in sewing and upholster in large quantities, coupled with 3D Ply’s expertise in wood and ply forming to create a unique manufacturing offer for its customers, suppliers and team members.

Paul Kean, who currently joint-owns 3D Ply with his wife Carrie, said: “It was important to Carrie and I that the business continues to grow and develop following our retirement and we felt Stannah could not only provide the strategic vision and investment, but also shared our ethos.

“Our suppliers, customers and the wonderful employees who have helped Carrie and I build our business are in safe hands at Stannah.”

Lee Ness, General Manager of GUS, who will take responsibility for 3D Ply, said: “Our products are sold in over 40 countries around the globe and the purchase of 3D Ply allows us to secure a key element of our supply chain for all our existing and future customers.

“I’d like to thank Paul and Carrie for their commitment to Stannah over the years and I wish them a long and happy retirement. I am excited to work with the 3D Ply team on the next chapter for the business.”
