Aldi is looking to expand their business through the opening of new stores in seven Berkshire towns.

The supermarket chain said that for every store they open in the region, between 30 and 50 people will be employed.

To help accelerate their expansion plans, Aldi is looking to open more stories in the Berkshire region including the towns of Reading and Wokingham

In recent years, Aldi, and Lidl, have disrupted the established UK grocers and won market share. In the space of seven years, Aldi was able to increase its market share on the grocery market by 59 percent, going from 4.9 to 7.8.

The supermarket chain has seen a rapid expansion over recent years and has 874 stores spread throughout the UK. Aldi has plans to reach their target of 1,200 stores in the UK by 2025.

With 34,000 employees across the country, 24,000 of them are based within their stores. Aldi has targeted Berkshire as part of their major expansion plans.

Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “We’re continuing to gain even more customers – with over 60% of UK households shopping with Aldi in the last year.

“Our focus is on expanding our store estate, making sure Aldi is accessible to as many of these new shoppers across the country as possible.

“Looking ahead, we are excited to provide millions of new customers with access to Aldi’s award-winning quality and unbeatable value as we create even more places and more ways to shop with us.”

Aldi plans to create at least 2,000 jobs and open an additional 100 stores across the UK over the next two years as part of their £1.3 billion expansion plan which launched in 2021.
