Superbike racer keeps dream alive with help of Hampshire’s HIPPO
Portsmouth-based waste removal business HIPPO is set to sponsor New Zealand racer Shane Richardson for the upcoming 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
It marks HIPPO’s first venture into the world of motorsports, as well as Shane’s first major superbike sponsor.
Shane, 28, has been riding motorbikes for 26 years, racing for 24. But it was his trade background, crafting bespoke kitchens and cabinetry – which he still does part-time – that caught HIPPO’s attention.
The company already has a strong trade business providing its famous HIPPOBAGs, and hopes to further promote its name through a season-long sponsorship with Shane.
HIPPO branding will be seen across his Suzuki bike and leathers. They’ll also run a promotional partnership with Fix Radio to win race tickets, bring Shane along to The Installer Show, and launch an integrated marketing programme.
Before Shane’s recent success racing in New Zealand, he spent the last two years off the track, making this season a real comeback.
With an urge to return to racing, he recently secured a job as a test driver for Triumph.
“HIPPO’s sponsorship is genuinely the difference between me riding this year and not”, said Shane.
“I’m very grateful that they see potential in this partnership and have been able to help me keep my dream alive.”
Gareth Lloyd Jones, MD of HIPPO, added: “Being able to sponsor a talented joiner, who’s turned a hobby of motorbike riding into a career, has provided a new and exciting opportunity for HIPPO.
“We look forward to supporting Shane as he takes on this season and achieves success on the track.”
The season will take racers across the UK and Spain, including iconic tracks like the Thruxton Circuit in Andover – known for being one of the fastest in the country.
Official races start in April and end in October. Keep up to date with Shane’s success across the season on HIPPO’s social channels.
