Savvy Navvy, developers of the navigation app dubbed ‘Google Maps for boats’, have embarked on a new partnership.

The Bournemouth firm has announced it will be integrating its smart range technology with the electric boat drive systems of Southampton marine pioneers RAD Propulsion.

RAD Propulsion users will be able to leverage Savvy Navvy’s intuitive navigation charts, which account for factors such as tide, wind and weather conditions.

“By integrating RAD’s innovative propulsion systems with our technology, we’re giving boaters confidence and peace of mind,” said David Cusworth, head of partnership and innovation at Savvy Navvy.

“Together, we’re delivering safer, smarter and more comfortable journeys.”

The partnership is part of the new ‘Savvy integrated’ product from Savvy Navvy, whereby the company develops navigation solutions for marine manufacturers and suppliers.

Among them now is RAD Propulsion, which applies a tech-focused approach to help boat builders, commercial operators and high-end leisure users reduce their carbon footprint.

Harry Beadle, head of embedded systems at RAD, added: “The requirement for electric propulsion in the marine world is happening now as customers transition away from their reliance on fossil fuels.

“We need navigation solutions to follow, enabling smarter solutions for boaters across the globe.

“By leveraging Savvy Navvy’s advanced systems, we aim to provide boat owners with unprecedented accuracy in range prediction and navigation, ensuring they can make the most of their voyages with complete confidence while minimising environmental impact.”

Savvy Navvy’s mobile app is now at over two million downloads, and the business is hoping to make waves in the southern hemisphere after signing its first distributor in Australia and New Zealand.
