Cheltenham's cyber cluster organisation reveals line up for next event
As the UK prepares to fully ease lockdown restrictions, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and smart cities have become a major focus in the country’s future plans, with new developments in the cyber sector.
Cheltenham’s cyber cluster, CyNam, has announced the full line up for its next virtual event, CyNam 21.2 - Smart Cyber: Securing the IoT and the cities of the future, taking place on June 10. This includes CGI, Field Effect, Plexal and Ladies of Cheltenham Hacking Society amongst others. Featuring a series of keynote talks and panel sessions, breakout discussions and cyber showcases, the event will explore securing the Internet of Things (IoT) and how cyber can enable the smart cities of tomorrow.
The showcase will bring industry and academia together, allowing viewers to directly interact with thought leaders during the breakout discussions. Highlights include an announcement from the National Cyber Security Centre and an expert panel featuring members from IBM, Field Effect, University of Bristol and Oxford University, answering the biggest questions surrounding smart cities, sustainability, community living and smart technology. Back by popular demand, the Student Showcase will invite four enthusiastic Gloucestershire students to discuss climate change and its relationship with technology.
The event will be a must watch television broadcast experience for industry professionals, career changers, students and people with an interest in cyber. Held in partnership with the Cheltenham Science Festival, the showcase will be broadcasted live from Hub 8, a co-working space built for the cyber-tech community. The organisers have recently launched their Event Portal which will host the live broadcast, featuring a breakdown of the agenda and sponsors.
Richard Yorke, Director at CyNam said: “As the world becomes ever more connected through IoT devices, attention is turning to the role of smart cities in terms of sustainability and security. Ensuring smart cities are safe is paramount for the post-Covid world and our latest virtual conference will explain what the future of these innovative spaces will look like and how developments in technology can enable both citizens and businesses to enjoy smart cities securely. CyNam 21.2 will look at the challenges and opportunities we will need to face now to make this a reality.”
Registration is still open for CyNam 21.2, which will take place from 6:00pm-8:00pm BST. As the cyber cluster for Cheltenham, CyNam helps to create the ideal conditions for local cyber technology innovation, activating a network for businesses of all sizes to collaborate.
