Optegra appoints Hampshire ophthalmologist as UK medical director
Optegra Eye Health Care has appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon Alastair Stuart as its new UK medical director.
Based in Swanmore, Hampshire, Alastair has 15 years’ experience as an ophthalmic surgeon and specialises in cataract and refractive surgery, having trained at Moorfields.
He’s been with Optegra for the past three years and takes over from Amir Hamid, who’s now stepping up as chief medical officer.
“I’m very proud and excited about this new role,” said Alastair.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of ensuring that Optegra’s success and progress continues.”
“Amir has done a fantastic job during his time as medical director, and I’m very grateful to him for putting us in such a good position.
“It’s important we do not stand still. We must continue to progress, grow and develop further.”
Alastair’s main priorities will be patient outcomes and safety.
He added: “We constantly review and analyse our outcomes, and as medical director I will be responsible for holding us accountable to the high standards we’ve set.
“I’ll strive to ensure that all business decisions are made with the patient at the forefront.”
Mat Pickering, managing director of Optegra UK, said: “We’ve been nothing but impressed with Alastair in his time with us.
“His attitude, loyalty and passion for his patients fits perfectly with Optegra’s values.
“And his surgical outcomes speak for themselves – I know that delivering great care for our patients is central to everything Alastair does.
“I’m excited that Alastair will be joining our UK leadership team, where I have no doubt he’ll add immense value.”
Alastair will continue to operate cataract refractive surgery, laser eye surgery and implantable contact lenses at Optegra’s Hampshire hospital.
He is also a key opinion leader for companies such as Zeiss and Rayner, providing expert talks.
