BDO makes South West partner hire

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has expanded its South West team and strengthened its financial services capabilities with the senior appointment of Jamie Smith as partner.
Jamie brings 17 years’ experience to the role, helping a wide range of audited entities, from FTSE 100 international groups to private equity-backed regulated groups and owner-manager businesses. He was previously a director at PwC.
At BDO he will lead the South West financial services audit team from the firm’s Bristol hub, and form a key part of its national financial services team.
Justin Chait, Head of Financial Services Audit at BDO, said: “Jamie’s appointment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to attracting the region’s brightest talent to the firm, particularly as we look to strengthen our financial services capabilities – both from a regional and national perspective.
“Jamie has extensive experience working alongside a wide range of audited entities in the South West. His expertise and reputation for delivering the highest quality audits will be vital in a sector that is a key strategic focus for BDO. Jamie will be a valuable addition to our market-leading team.”
Jamie added: “I am thrilled to be joining BDO. Internally, my focus will be on supporting the exceptional South West team as it grows, maintaining its unique Bristol identity, while seamlessly integrating with our national financial services strategy. I look forward to showcasing what BDO has to offer to the local market.”
The appointment follows the arrival of Phil Duma as partner in BDO’s financial services transaction services team, based in Bristol, demonstrating the ongoing investment in the region in financial services.
