Planning permission has been granted for 185 new homes in the Worcester village of Pinvin, just north of Pershore.

Birmingham-based consultancy Harris Lamb submitted an application to Wychavon district council, on behalf of David Wilson Homes, seeking outline permission to develop the 40-acre agricultural site, which forms part of Orchard Farm to the north of Owletts End.

"This is an exciting application that will bring much-needed housing to Wychavon," said Simon Hawley, director at Harris Lamb.

"The scheme will deliver up to 185 dwellings, 40 per cent of which will be made up of essential affordable housing, and a number of self-build plots, as well as a local centre, public open space including a play area, and associated infrastructure," he added.

"The inclusion of the self-build/custom build units is of particular interest in the context of the current housing land supply deficit, and we are delighted that the planning committee have approved the plans," noted Hawley.

The plans were approved with conditions that David Wilson Homes would contribute a total of £1,292,118 to local educational institutions and £120,000 to Pershore and Upton Primary Care Network.

Another was that it make a significant contribution toward sports and leisure facilities at Pershore High School.

The council's planning committee concluded that while there would be some harm to the landscape due to the redevelopment of a greenfield site, this would not be significant and would be outweighed by the benefits of the scheme and the mitigation put in place by the developer, including a 15% biodiversity net gain.
