Warwick’s Plantool Hire Centres marks 45th birthday early with £110k refurb
The Warwick HQ of tool and equipment hire business Plantool Hire Centres has undergone a major refurbishment with help from Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub.
Last year saw the business move into their new 8,000 sq ft premises on Collins Road to accommodate a workforce of 30 and counting.
MD Ben Jones was referred by the growth hub to Warwickshire County Council’s Small Capital Grants Fund, which allowed Plantool to supplement its own £85,000 investment with a £35,000 council grant.
Ben said: “We’d rented our previous site in Warwick since 1987 and we’d long outgrown it.

“This building became available, so we bought it. The growth hub helped with the refurbishment along with Warwickshire County Council who came to visit us and gave us advice on what was possible.”
The funding was soon put towards a new workshop and mezzanine, with space for the team to help train up to 12 people from other businesses and organisations.
Ben added: “The mezzanine has provided great extra storage space and we have a workshop now so it is a much better place to work – and much warmer!
“This has been a fantastic opportunity for us because the tool and equipment hire sector has changed over the years and we now need more space for larger vehicles and to provide a wider range of equipment.
“The better transport links to our new building and its ability to hold more stock will enable us to take advantage of the buoyant market.
“We’ve also taken on an apprentice because it’s really important that we provide the right training for our business.”
