The George Inn, Somerset crowned best pub at national awards
The George Inn in Norton St. Philip, Somerset has been named 2024 Pub of the Year at this year’s National Pub & Bar Awards.
Managed by Butcombe Pubs & Inns, the 14th century Tudor venue took home the accolade after a glittering ceremony in London last week.
The National Pub & Bar Awards recognises excellence in the hospitality industry, taking into consideration customer service, design, style of offer, marketing and investment.
Linda Johnson, general manager at The George Inn, said: “This is absolutely amazing! I’m so proud and so emotional.
“I’m just so passionate about my team, the company that supports us, and obviously The George Inn and what we’re all about.
“With our senior sous chef, Aimie Harley, recently being voted Pub Chef of the Year at the prestigious Salon Culinaire awards, this really caps off what has been an amazing few months for The George Inn and all the team.”
The judges said they were impressed with the immaculate venue – which has recently undergone a full makeover and preservation project – as well as the quality food and drink offer across its menus.
Alice Bowyer, director of food at Butcombe Pubs & Inns, added: “These guys really deserve it.
“It’s the combination of the setting, the history of the building, the investment that we have put into the business and, most importantly, the team and family culture they’ve created there.”
