Plans to regenerate and redevelop Town Quay in Southampton have been unveiled by Fareham-based property development company Nicolas James Group.

Drawn up by HGP Architects, also based in Fareham, if accepted the plans will see restaurants, food halls, a large new marina, apartments, a hotel, bar, and conference and spa facilities created at the site in a project expected to cost more than £200 million, bringing around 1,000 jobs once completed.

The hotel will be part of the Group’s ‘THE NICI’ brand, which recently launched in Bournemouth, with the full proposals funded by the sale of around 500 new apartments on the far side of the Marina, which would include a contribution for affordable housing.

The development would also provide public access to the waterfront, which until now has been inaccessible.

Nicolas Roach, Chairman of the Nicolas James Group, said: “Having lived, studied, and worked in Southampton, I have shared the frustration that our city lacks a destination waterfront.

“A large quality city deserves one and people need to recognise how far Southampton has come and where it can get to.  There are many places in the UK where we can invest, but the city has vision supported by strong political and business leadership.

“We delivered in Ocean Village and will do so in Town Quay. I am so positive about Southampton, and I am relocating our entire head office to our newly refurbished Harbour House in Town Quay.”

The leader of Southampton City Council, Cllr Satvir Kaur, said, “As a council, we are committed to making the most of our waterfront, with more public access.

“These early plans give an opportunity to create a world-class waterfront destination in Southampton, while helping to grow our local economy and create local jobs. I’m keen to see these plans progress and maximising opportunities it could bring to our city.”
