The leader of Warwick District Council has paid a visit to a new mixed-use development being built in Bishop’s Tachbrook.

Cllr Andrew Day was invited by Ed Sutton of LSP Developments Ltd and Ian Hardwick managing director of Warwick-based L&Q Estates, to see the construction work taking place at the local centre, which is located next to Heathcote Primary School at the junction of Harbury Lane and Vickers Way.

Contractor Keller Construction has laid the footings for the retail elements of Heathcote Square, and the erection of the steelwork is now underway.

LSP’s scheme allows for a 4,000 sq ft convenience store which will be operated by Heart of England Co-op, together with four ancillary retail units, to include a dentist and fish and chip shop. Included within this element of the scheme is the central public square, which will be the focal point of the development accessible by pedestrians and cyclists.

More than 100 jobs will be created when Heathcote Square is up and running – with the first phase expected to open in spring 2022.

The wider areas of the local centre will include office accommodation and a purpose-built children’s day nursery for Little Pioneers, which will accommodate up to 100 children aged between 0-4 years.

Cinnamon Care Collection will provide a 75 en-suite bedroom care home, including lounges, dining areas, library, activity rooms and cinema/hair salon which is likely to L&Q Estates local centre Bishops Tachbrookbe completed in the early part of 2023.

Cllr Day said: “It’s great to see this important centre coming to life. The new hub will not only be a place for the local community to come together, but these facilities will also provide jobs and vital local services. What’s even better is that the centre has been carefully designed to encourage sustainable access, with good provision for cyclists and pedestrians alike.”

Ian Hardwick, managing director of Warwick-based L&Q Estates, said the work was progressing well.

“It is great to see the construction of Heathcote Square taking shape and everything is on course to complete the opening of the retail units, the nursery and new office by spring next year,” he said.

“We hope this will be a welcome addition to the Lower Heathcote community with the facilities it will provide.

“More homes have been built in the area over the last few years as part of Warwick District Council’s Local Plan and amenities like this help to foster a real sense of pride and community.”

Ed Sutton, managing director at LSP Developments, said: “It’s so pleasing to see the local Ccntre scheme on site, which is testament to the many stakeholders involved, not least L&Q Estates, together with both the District and Parish Councils.

“Whilst being delivered in phases, the centrepiece of the development, being Heathcote Square, will be completed by Keller Construction early in 2022, bringing additional amenities to the surrounding residential neighbourhood.”
