A leading college group in Warwickshire is set to launch a trio of new facilities to help adults to re-skill and pursue new careers in three booming regional sectors.

College group WCG is launching its Coventry & Warwickshire Adult Learning (CWAL) facilities which will help to develop talent for the automotive, construction and railway industries.

The launch event will be held at Warwick Trident College on Thursday, 10th November – and is open to employers, employees, adult learners and people considering a career change.

It will see information shared about each of the three new facilities, which span across two colleges in the group, and the associated training programmes which will be seeking to develop skilled individuals to support the regional economy.

Moreton Morrell College is home to two of the facilities, including the recently completed simulation rail track training facility. The college group partnered with RMF Group to create the facility which gives learners the chance to perfect their track maintenance skills.

A new construction training facility is also being developed at Moreton Morrell College. The project is ongoing to create the new space, however the college group has already created some new training programmes which will be run from the facility and those programmes will be launched at the event.

The recently completed electric vehicle technology facilities at Warwick Trident College will be the third of the new facilities to be launched at the event.

Significant investment in the facility has been made, with hybrid, electric and plug-in cars purchased and a full-conversion taking place of a workshop, with associated tools and diagnostics kit bought as well.

The investment comes after Coventry and Warwickshire securing funding totalling more than £5 million from the Government’s Skills Accelerator programme, which incorporates the Local Skills Improvement Plan Traiblazers and Strategic Development Fund pilots.

Funding was securing through a successful group bid alongside other colleges, to help create facilities to support educational provision which meets the skills demands of the region.

Launch Event - Thursday 10th November:

The launch event for the Coventry & Warwickshire Adult Learning facilities at WCG will feature presentations, networking, tours and refreshments for visitors.

Tony Booth, of the Electric Vehicle Knowledge Network, will be speaking about the new electric vehicle facility at Warwick Trident College.

Representatives of RMF Group will be introducing the rail track training facility at Moreton Morrell College, while tutors in the construction department at WCG will discuss the new construction operations training programmes.

Angela Joyce, CEO of WCG, said:We have made significant investment in these facilities at Moreton Morrell College and Warwick Trident College, and the new training resources will enable the group to expand its delivery in vital sectors for the Warwickshire economy.

“Warwickshire is a hotbed for electric vehicle technology as a result of investment in facilities such as the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre, HS2 and other infrastructure projects which mean that rail is an industry with incredible opportunities regionally and construction continues to be a key sector to support the regional development.

“WCG has partnered with experts to create and support each facility, ensuring that they are catering to the needs of modern industry.

“We’re pleased to now be able to launch our Coventry & Warwickshire Adult Learning offer and look forward to speaking with employers and prospective students about how they can utilise these facilities to drive forward their businesses and careers.”
