Supporting the future skills needs of businesses in one of the UK’s high-tech hotspots.  At Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS), we’re committed to supporting manufacturing and engineering companies in Oxfordshire, the Thames Valley and surrounding areas to train the next generation of engineering talent through fully funded apprenticeships.

OAS is a partnership between the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) who between them have a history of apprentice training in science and engineering stretching back more than 70 years.

Our state of the art training centre at UKAEA’s Culham Science Centre, near Abingdon, Oxfordshire, opened in September 2019 and offers apprentices the chance to learn from proven industry experts in an environment at the forefront of technological advancements.

We aim to develop, enable and inspire our employee partners’ workforces, with bespoke solutions available that can be tailored to suit individual business requirements or needs. Our training programmes and accredited courses include exposure to disruptive technologies and new ways of working, empowering learners to help accelerate innovation when they return to their employers.

‘Our requirements are very bespoke but the team have worked hard to accommodate those whilst always maintaining that they will not compromise on the quality of the training provided to the learner. It is exciting to work with a provider that is so committed to the individual and I am in no doubt that our apprentices will come out having been trained to the highest level.’ Marc Harrison, Director – Oxford Packaging Solutions.

As a leading provider of hi-tech engineering apprenticeships and training in Oxfordshire, we have a responsibility to support the economic, social and cultural success of the region in which we serve. We’ve aligned our aims to suit the requirements of the area, with a focus on developing manufacturing engineers that are equipped to support the future skills needs of local businesses of all sizes.

We also have a duty of care to the sector within which we operate, from the health and wellbeing of our students, employees and trainers to the environmental impact of our work. In support of this, we are also committed to improving inclusive access to apprenticeships for all through an ongoing programme of equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) initiatives.

‘An apprenticeship is a great route for any type of person, whether you know what you would like to do with your career or not.  OAS can help you to find a workplace with an apprenticeship to suit your interests and that you will enjoy.  You’ll learn a huge variety of skills that you’ll use throughout your career, as well as understanding all the principles behind them.’  ------ Olivia Elvin, current apprentice – Williams Racing.

Apprenticeships provide a cost-effective way to attract enthusiastic, motivated, young talent, helping to future proof a workforce and reinvigorate current staff. They also enable them to retain a business’s existing expertise by passing on knowledge and skills to the next generation.

With government incentives doubled until 30 September 2021, and additional financial and practical support available for SMEs through our partnership with MTC Apprenticeships and Lloyds Bank, there’s never been a better time to consider taking on an apprentice. Contact our expert team of staff today to discuss your individual requirements.
