Senior Sunseeker team meet with Poole MP to talk future prospects

Representatives from luxury yachtmaker Sunseeker, a stalwart of Poole’s business scene for more than 50 years, met with local MP Neil Duncan-Jordan recently.

Following the brand’s buyout last October, CEO Andrea Frabetti as well as the brand’s HR and operations directors came to discuss the future of boatbuilding in the town.

The talks covered the company’s ownership, future employment prospects, the challenges the sector is facing globally and the opportunities that Sunseeker hopes to realise.

Both parties highlighted the key role which boatbuilding plays in providing skilled jobs, supporting the local supply chain and boosting the regional economy.

Sunseeker leadership assured Neil that the business is in a “stable, long-term position with a five-year plan for industrial growth”, as well as reiterating their commitment to retain its core production and employment in Dorset.

All staff who were temporarily laid off through January are reportedly now back to work in Poole.

Andrea said: “As a business deeply rooted in the local community, we’re eager to continue growing and creating more employment opportunities.

“Today’s meeting with Neil was a great opportunity to discuss the ways in which we can collaborate on training and development programmes that will ensure our workforce is ready for the challenges ahead.

“We’re excited about the potential to expand the industry further and create sustainable, high-quality jobs.”

Neil added: “The boatbuilding industry has long been an essential part of the Poole economy.

“Our discussions today focused on ensuring that we have a company that’s committed to the local area and sees a long-term future for those both already employed and those who will join in the coming years.

“I was very pleased to see that the workforce had returned to the yard after a temporary layoff.

“I’m happy to work with Sunseeker and other local businesses to ensure that the skills and opportunities are in place for future generations and that everyone can benefit from a successful business.”

Sunseeker has pledged to maintain existing staff numbers in line with its current production forecast and invest in apprenticeship and training programmes, including its longstanding partnership with Bournemouth and Poole College.

It will also hold monthly meetings with Neil to keep communication open.
