Solent biodiversity project awarded £800,000

A collaboration between Plymouth Marine Laboratory and the University of Portsmouth, has received a grant of £800,000.
The funds have been assigned to the 'Sea the Value' project by UK Research & Innovation: A research project which aims to enhance the restoration and protection of the natural environment.
The University of Portsmouth and Plymouth Marine Laboratory collaboration received a share of the £6.4million UK Research & Innovation funding pot. The financial injection will be used to restore, and support Solent marine biodiversity projects, including food, carbon capture and job creation initiatives.
"UK Research and Innovation-funded projects will support increased investment and improve management of biodiversity," Professor Sir Duncan Wingham, executive chair of the Natural Environment Research Council, told TBM.
"The Economics of Biodiversity programme will address critical gaps in our understanding of the economic and societal value and benefits of biodiversity."
