YFM nears £42k fundraising target in support of colleague battling cancer
Private equity firm YFM is closing in on its £42,000 fundraising target for The Christie Charity, which supports cancer patients in Manchester and the wider region.
The fundraising efforts come as part of YFM’s 42nd anniversary and are in solidarity with colleague Andy Thomas, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last month.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy and dealing with painful side effects, Andy completed his own 10k run in Salford last Sunday.
At the same time, his colleagues at YFM participated in the Vitality 10k race in London, with others joining in from across the UK – all running simultaneously to raise crucial funds for The Christie Charity, where Andy is receiving care.
Eamon Nolan, managing partner at YFM, said: “We’ve seen an amazing response from everyone in our network—advisors, investors, portfolio companies, and both old and new colleagues.
“The support for Andy and The Christie has been overwhelming, and many have shared their own personal connections with The Christie Centre and the great work it does.
“It’s inspiring to see so many come together to help us reach our goal.”
The Christie Charity provides essential support to cancer patients and their families, funding a range of services that the NHS alone cannot provide.
With £35,000 already raised, YFM is now making a final push to reach its £42,000 goal.
Andy added: “Last month I found out I have stage 4 cancer.
“I’m now nearly halfway through chemo, and a few days ago I had an injection that, as a side effect, means every bone in my body is aching.
“It’s in that context that I’ve decided to join this sponsored run on Sunday.
“It’s genuinely going to hurt, but it means a lot to be able to help The Christie, the hospital that’s trying to help me.”
