A family-owned trust has opened a new GP practice and health centre in Hartshill, Warwickshire, designed to improve access to healthcare and reduce patient wait times for local residents.

The Sidhu family has a track record of building residential properties, nursing homes and community developments. Their latest project, Hartshill Health Centre opened in October 2024 and is dedicated to delivering healthcare services for the local population, with modern, patient-friendly facilities. All services at the centre are provided as part of the NHS, ensuring free, high-quality healthcare is accessible to the local community.

The health centre is comprised of a GP practice, community health services, and specialist consultant-led clinics. It is home to a new frailty division, which includes an ulcer and a heart failure clinic, and offers a base for South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust nurses, supporting them to deliver vital community-based care. Since opening its doors, the centre has welcomed over 1,200 new patients and extends its impact beyond GP services by leasing space to community health teams and Primary Care Network, which coordinates care for 35,000 patients. This has enabled faster diagnoses and treatments, alleviating pressure on hospital waiting lists, while on-site orthopaedic specialists provide expert hip, knee and spinal care.

The family’s patriarch, Dr Bal Sidhu was inspired to open the centre following his almost four-decade long career as a general practitioner.

The project was made possible with the support of Lloyds, which provided a seven-figure funding package through its Clean Growth Financing Initiative (CGFI). The CGFI enables businesses to invest in energy-efficient projects by offering preferential funding rates, allowing them to expand while reducing operational costs. Built to high environmental standards, the practice features five air-source heat pumps and uses no gas, earning it an A+ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

Lloyds’ financing not only enabled the construction of the health centre but is also helping to future-proof its long-term growth. The funding package has allowed the centre to invest in cutting-edge green technologies, reducing its environmental impact while expanding critical healthcare services for thousands of patients.

In addition to the broad range of services available, the centre is home to members of University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire’s cardiology team who operate an atrial fibrillation clinic, performing ECGs and echo for Hartshill’s patients. The average NHS wait time for these procedures is 9 months, but through the Hartshill Health Centre, patients are able to receive vital healthcare within two weeks, giving high risk patients the chance to get live-saving treatment as soon as it’s needed.

Dr Bal Sidhu of the Sidhu Family Trust, said: “This health centre has been a labour of love for the community, and I’m incredibly proud to see it come to life. From the very beginning, we’ve worked closely with local residents and the Patient Participation Group to ensure the facility reflects the unique needs of the community.

“It was a challenging project, but with the determination of our team and the crucial support of Lloyds Bank, we’ve been able to turn this vision into reality. Their backing allowed us to create a world-class healthcare facility for Hartshill. It’s more than just a GP surgery – it’s a community hub where people feel heard, supported, and cared for in ways that go well beyond traditional primary care.

“The centre has had such a profound impact that the street name was recently changed to Sidhu Close, an incredibly touching gesture and a reflection of the strong relationship we’ve built within the local community.”

Steve Loxton, Specialist Healthcare Relationship Manager at Lloyds, said: “We are proud to support the Sidhu family in delivering such a vital community asset. Their commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability is impressive. This project showcases how investment in greener buildings can deliver both environmental and social benefits by unlocking preferential finance rates to support expansion.

“We look forward to continuing our support as the Sidhu’s create positive change in the community."
