A well-known day nursery in the centre of Winchester has been sold for the first time, bought by Grandir UK for an undisclosed sum.

Business property adviser Christie & Co said Kingsmead nursery was established in 1989 by Helen Gaskell with a mission was to help children "fill their own 'buckets' with love, resilience, curiosity and courage, and to develop their natural desire for learning through their interests".

Her own children, Emily and Chris, now grown up, have worked alongside her to make the nursery a success.

At any one time, it can take up to 57 children and lies next to a large car park, making it convenient for local and commuuting parents. It has been recognised for providing quality provision through a platinum #justquality award.

Lydia Hopper, CEO at Grandir UK said she was delighted to welcome the Winchester nursery. It takes Grandir's settings to 83 across England.

"We are looking forward to continuing to provide an environment where the children, families and nursery team can learn, grow, and thrive together," she said.

Sophie Willcox, director – childcare & education at Christie & Co, added: "Kingsmead is a unique, special nursery. Helen and Emily’s passion shone through at our first meeting, and I was not surprised to be inundated with interest from a variety of buyers so quickly.

"We went under offer within two weeks of marketing the setting and were in receipt of multiple offers during that time.

"The quality of provision, strong team, and a well-maintained asset were attractive for many buyers, and I am glad to have found the right party to carry on their legacy. This is another example of the demand we are seeing for premium quality settings in the South.”

Emily Walker, former owner of Kingsmead day nursery said: "We are delighted to have found the perfect match for Kingsmead!”
