Slough emerging as data centre hub as Yondr project continues

Slough's emergence as a data centre hub is continuing with Dutch operator Yondr Group revealing it has completed the first 20MW of a 30MW centre in the Berkshire town.
The centre will be the firm's first data centre in the UK and is located on its planned 100+MW data centre campus, it was reported.

"Our proven track record of delivering reliable and resilient hyperscale data centre capacity around the world has made us a valued partner for our clients, and we are looking forward to entering the operational phase for this facility, while progressing construction on the Slough campus concurrently with our other projects around the world," reportedly said Paul Hood, the COO for global data centre operations at Yondr.
A timeline for the completion of the new facilities was not released.
"The handover of our first UK data centre is a major milestone, not just for our Slough campus and Yondr, but for the UK’s data centre ecosystem as we respond to the global challenge of increasing data capacity," Peter Hill, vice-president (VP) of design and construction EMEA at Yondr was quoted as saying.
It comes after Slough Borough Council in June this year authorised property investor Segro to build two additional data centres in the area - in addition to the previously approved Segro data centre development in Iver.
And in March, Equinix revealed plans to transform a former paint factory industrial site in Slough into a data centre campus.
The Yondr project is reportedly on track to earn BREEAM ‘Very Good’ certification and the firm is also opting for hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) over diesel for backup generators
Also, the collaboration with the University Technical College (UTC) at nearby Heathrow has been reportedly crucial to the project.
