New teaching facility set to open this summer at Southampton Solent University

A new £7m state-of-the-art teaching facility for the South Coast Institute of Technology (IoT) collaboration is poised to open this summer at Southampton Solent University, it was reported.
The new hub is reportedly set to accommodate around 2,000 new students each year in the areas of maritime, engineering, and digital.
The South Coast Institute of Technology initiative, backed by over £13m of government funding, is a collaboration of five further education colleges and two universities.
It was launched in late 2022 and comprises Solent University and the University of Portsmouth.
Others institutions are the South Hampshire College Group, Brockenhurst College, Havant and South Downs College, and Isle of Wight College.
On January 9, Solent University gave a behind-the-scenes look at the new education facility.
Matt Johnson, director of the South Coast Institute of Technology at Solent University, reportedly said: "The IoT now works right the way from secondary school, where we talk to the children about how these are the careers within our region and then we encourage them onto these pathways which will take them through the local colleges and universities and into local businesses.
Johnson reportedly added that it will be a "really important facility and benefit the whole region".
