Local business leaders shine national spotlight on Dorset
The Great South West (GSW) pan-regional partnership hosted a regional roadshow with Dorset Chamber last week, giving local business leaders the opportunity to advance their interests on the national stage.
The event, held at Bournemouth University, was the second of four roadshows, with others planned for Somerset and Cornwall later this year.
It brought together senior business leaders, investors and local authorities to shine a spotlight on the region’s business community.
Delegates included Cecilia Bufton of Dorset LEP, Graham Farrant of BCP Council, Matt Prosser of Dorset Council, and Ian Girling of Dorset Chamber.
Also in attendance were Ian Jones of Bournemouth University, Paul Tansey of Intergage Group, and Simon Boyd of REIDSteel.
Karl Tucker, chair of the Great South West Partnership, said: “The Dorset Regional Roadshow demonstrated the huge potential and ambition of our business community.
“The insights shared will be essential in shaping our voice with the new government, ensuring that the South West is heard loud and clear in Westminster.
“It’s clear that with the right investment and support, our region can play a pivotal role in driving the UK's economic growth.”
The event featured panel discussions on key topics such as skills development, infrastructure needs, and sustainability initiatives.
Ian Girling, chief executive of Dorset Chamber, added: “This event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the innovative spirit and resilience of Dorset’s business community.
“By coming together, we’re sending a clear message to Westminster about the untapped potential in our region.
“The South West is ready for significant investment and growth, and events like this help ensure our voice is heard at the highest levels of government.”
Alongside the other two regional roadshows planned this year, GSW will host economic and sector insight reports, events at Westminster, and a major national conference in September.
