Inexpensive sleeping pods for homeless people could be installed in Milton Keynes
An inventive solution for accommodating Milton Keynes' rough sleepers over the winter has been developed by a local architect.
Concerned about homeless individuals living on the streets over the festive period, Alexander Waithe of M.W.A.D Studio in Stony Stratford, hit upon an idea... To provide those living on the streets with comfort and shelter, he has created a temporary pod construction that can be installed wherever needed.
The buildings contain windows for ventilation and natural light, as well as boast both a fireproof exterior and interior cladding. The exteriors of each pod would be painted with patterns by locals artists in order to make them look more aesthetically appealing.
Alexander has approached a homeless organisation about the revolutionary concept and is awaiting their reaction. Public reaction to similar ideas in other towns and cities is, however, often split.

Some local Milton Keynes businesses have sponsored M.W.A.D to build a prototype and they are aiming to get funding for more.
Milton Keynes has garnered something of a reputation for homelessness, even being dubbed 'Tent City' just a few years ago due to the large number of homeless persons who were camped out on the streets and underpasses.
The number of rough sleepers has now decreased to a mere few as a result of several activities by MK Council and other charities and organisations. Alexander thinks that those who are homeless and want to remain such could well benefit from his proposal.
