Worcestershire-based tech firm Indra has expanded its relationship with supplier Octopus Energy - integrating its home chargers with the latter's popular electric vehicle (EV) tarif.

Intelligent Octopus Go is an EV tariff and users of Indra EV chargers will now be able to use the Octopus App to link their charger to their Octopus Intelligent Go account.

This has been achieved by integrating software between Malvern-based Indra and Octopus’s proprietary energy-tech platform - Kraken.

The tariff provides a cheap rate of 7p /kWh for smart charging an EV via an Indra charger.

"We’re delighted to announce this eagerly anticipated integration between our smart home EV chargers and the popular Intelligent Octopus Go tariff," said John Fox, Indra’s chief technology officer.

"We’ve worked closely with Octopus over many months to ensure our customers retain all the features they know and love from their Indra charger whilst benefitting from the cheap and green energy provided via the tariff.

"We are proud to be one of a small number of EV chargepoint manufacturers who can support smart EV tariffs such as this, in tandem with solar."

Alex Schoch, head of electrification at Octopus Energy, added: "With everyday, more drivers are benefitting from cheaper, cleaner driving by switching over to the UK’s most popular charging tariff, Intelligent Octopus Go. Driving for just 2p per mile is a game changer.

"We’re also able to manage charging across the entire country, helping to balance our grid. Integrating chargers, like those made by Indra, unlocks savings for customers, while supporting our energy system.”

Indra has also developed the first commercial bi-directional V2G (vehicle to grid) charger, which allows power to flow both ways, enabling users to control the flow of energy to where it is most needed.

As part of the integration, Indra is working with Kraken to lead the way on bidirectional charging and ensure the integration is ready for vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging.

Indra was founded in 2013 on a mission to create the smartest way to power EVs (electric vehicles).
