Gloucester is set for the opening of 14 new affordable homes at Hempstead Lane in the city, it was reported.

The new properties include one-bedroom maisonettes and a bungalow as well as two, three, four and five-bedroom houses built by Lioncourt Homes for Sovereign Network Group (SNG), the latter said.

They are part of a 70 home development in the south west city.

Skott Hughes, finance director at Lioncourt Homes said: "Our development at Hempstead Lane is a fantastic example of the Lioncourt Homes’ team design and engineering ability.

"Our development of 70 homes sits on a brownfield site which lay derelict for 25 years. We are delighted that we have been able to breathe new life into this former MOD fuel facility to provide sustainable homes for the people of Gloucester, whilst protecting existing habitats and vastly enhancing biodiversity."

The 14 new homes comprise 11 for social rent and three houses for shared ownership. Each is built to a standard of high energy efficiency and are fitted with air source heat pumps and domestic EV chargers.

Corinne Moore, head of project management west at SNG said: "Housing demand remains very high in Gloucestershire and this includes the villages of the county.

"We are delighted to be able to create affordable homes in Gloucester so local people can build secure futures, confident in the support that comes with an SNG home."
