Punters at four Midlands pubs watching this year's Paris Olympics on screens on Friday will be doing so via a day of free electricity from British Gas.

The Kings Head in Leominster, The Wharf Inn at Hinckley, The Comet Inn in Hereford and The Saxon in Burton-on-Trent are four of 10 pubs nationwide that British Gas is powering for free on August 2.

On Friday, the games' highlights include Team GB athletes competing in athletics, beach volleyball, rowing and swimming.

British Gas, celebrating its partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB, said all of the pubs are signed up to its PeakSave for Business trial, which aims to reward business customers for shifting their electricity usage to times when there’s less demand, or more renewable electricity available on the grid, supporting a greener energy supply.

Matt Wood, director at British Gas Business Energy, said: "Since launching PeakSave, we've helped over 600,000 customers reduce costs and play their part in reducing electricity use at peak times. And now we’re excited to be rolling out our PeakSave for Business trial as well.

"We’re proud to help our customers and British small business in the Midlands make significant savings and utilise cleaner, greener energy – and what better way to kick things off than helping the nation watch more sport for less as we cheer on Team GB and ParalympicsGB this summer."

Businesses signed up to British Gas’ PeakSave for Business trial, which is running from July 26 to August 30 will be rewarded with 50 per cent off all electricity on from 11am to 4pm every Friday.

The trial comes following the firm's residential customer offer, which, British Gas says, has enabled customers to collectively save over £11 million and around 326 tonnes of carbon emissions.
