DP World invests £60m in four quay cranes at Southampton terminal

DP World is making a £60 million investment at its Southampton container terminal with an order of four new quay cranes.

Standing taller than Big Ben and weighing more than 2,000 tonnes each, the cranes will be the largest in Europe when they arrive in mid-2026.

They’re designed to service the largest cargo ships currently operating, with a lifespan of around 25 years.

“Our order for these new large quay cranes comes at a crucial time for DP World Southampton,” said Aart Hille Ris Lambers, vice president – commercial, ports and terminals at DP World.

“We’re continually innovating and investing to enhance our operations to give our customers, who operate the world’s largest container vessels, a smooth and efficient service.

“As our productivity and handling rates at Southampton continue to grow year-on-year, and we develop our nationwide end-to-end supply chain network, we’re always looking for ways to improve our infrastructure and our offer to customers.”

DP World operates in 78 countries and handles 10 per cent of global containerised trade.
