Reading-headquartered technology group Cohort plc has reported a 'significant' naval contract win for its German subsidiary ELAC.

The latter has been awarded a contract amendment worth €16.4 million following an option being activated.

Under the amendment, ELAC will deliver the sonar system for an additional unit of a new build submarine program for the Italian Navy.

It brings the total value of the contract, which was awarded in 2021, to more than €100 million and covers the supply of sonar systems for four submarines.

Cohort chief executive Andy Thomis said: "This important order is another significant win for ELAC and demonstrates its ability to meet the demanding specifications of the Italian Navy.

"We believe that ELAC's Sphere digital hydroacoustic technology provides the most advanced and effective sonars available worldwide, enabling a generational leap in underwater battlespace performance.

"Together with other recent contract wins at ELAC and across the group, this announcement further demonstrates the visibility of our future revenues."

AIM-listed Cohort is the parent company of six businesses based in the UK, Germany and Portugal, providing a wide range of services and products for domestic and export customers in defence and related markets.

The group employs more than 1,400 staff and is split into two divisions - Communications and Intelligence, and Sensors and Effectors.
