A Bristol charity, which supports young homeless people in the city, has received a ÂŁ25,000 donation this Christmas from commercial law firm Bevan Brittan.

The latter has offices in the city, as well as in Birmingham, Leeds and London, and the Bristol charity 1625 Independent People is one of four organisations the law firm chose last year to support. It helps people who are homeless, leaving care, or at risk of homelessness via a range of activities.

It is the second consecutive year that Bevan Brittan has donated ÂŁ100,000 in total to four organisations.

"This is a time when most people are looking forward to seeing family and friends, but all of the organisations we are supporting will be doing vital work throughout the festive period to help those whose Christmases may be very different," said Fran Mussellwhite, partner and community engagement lead at the firm’s Bristol office.

"Last year was the highest amount we have ever donated to our office charities and I am delighted that we are able to match that again.

"It is important that we make a positive contribution to the communities where we work and do all we can to help these organisations, especially at this time of the year when demand for their services will be higher.

"Fundraising for all charities and not-for-profit organisations in the current climate remains difficult, so we know how important it is that they continue to get as much support as they can."

The other organisations to each receive ÂŁ25,000 from the firm are:

Age UK Birmingham, an independent charity which offers services to support older people, their families and carers.

Zarach in Leeds, which aims to end child bed poverty where families do not have sufficient funds to provide a bed for children.

Thames Reach in London, which tackles homelessness in the capital and has staff and volunteers out on the streets every night to help those forced to sleep rough.Bevan Brittan’s Bristol team has seen growth in the past year with a number of senior hires joining the expanding business.

Fifteen of its colleagues in the city were promoted in May as part of a record promotion round, while the firm also recorded its 11th consecutive year of growth.
