She said: "I’m delighted to be joining BDO, where I hope to forge strong relationships – not only internally by using my experience and knowledge to help coach and mentor the next generation as they progress through the firm, but also externally in the marketplace both locally and internationally."

David Brookes, regional managing partner at BDO in the Thames Valley and the west, added: "As a firm we’re committed to investing in both our people and the regional marketplace.

"Bringing someone of Shirley’s expertise and experience to the firm is testament to that drive and ambition and we’re delighted to have her as part of our growing team.

"Her knowledge of the region’s business community, together with her in-depth understanding of thriving sectors such as life sciences and healthcare, makes her a real asset to BDO and provides us with an excellent platform on which to continue to grow in a sustainable way."
